Dr. Justin Hum
Prior to optometry, Dr. Justin Hum graduated from Queen’s University with a Bachelor of Science Honours degree majoring in the Life Sciences. He later pursued his dream of becoming an optometrist at the New England College of Optometry in Boston, Massachusetts, where he received his Doctorate of Optometry degree and completed both the Canadian Assessment of Competency in Optometry and the American National Board of Optometry enabling him to be fully licensed in Canada as well as the United States.
Dr. Hum obtained advanced training at various hospitals and community centers in both USA and Canada. These include the Veteran Affairs Hospital of Manchester, Veteran Affairs Hospital of Buffalo and Batavia, and the North End Community Health Center in Boston where he was involved in the diagnosis, treatment and management of ocular diseases ranging from glaucoma, age-related macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy, and cataracts. He also treats and manages complex conditions of the pediatric population during his externship at the Toronto Vision Institute and stays up to date with the leading edge of amblyopia treatment.
Dr. Hum is a member of the Ontario Association of Optometrists and completes extensive continuing education in USA and Canada, thus staying current with the ever changing and exciting field of Optometry. He enjoys primary care and has particular interest in contact lenses, co-management of laser refractive surgery, and dry eye management. He works with all populations and ages and prides himself on patient education.
When Dr. Hum is not in the office, he enjoys the outdoors where you will find him chasing waterfalls, hiking, skating, and playing various sports including tennis and golf. Despite the fact that he was born and raised in Toronto, Dr. Hum remains a loyal fan of the Montreal Canadiens.
